We’ve had a couple of “manly” meals around here. The past two nights have been beautiful, absolutely perfect for grilling. Hubby is on a charcoal kick, which takes a little more time but delivers way more flavor. I’m pretty lucky that I get dinner made for me all the time.
Speaking of Hubby… I don’t think he appreciated that I have been taking several pictures of him lately without a shirt on. It gets stuffy in our little place, so he’s bound to be without a shirt on when I’m taking pictures. I happen to think he looks good, and he should be proud that he takes care of himself. ![]()
Let’s get back to meals. Yogurt for breakfast both days, supplemented with some banana mini-muffins (see the recipe from the last post). Lunch yesterday was leftover pasta dish.
And here are the glorious burgers from last night:
I attempted to eat two (Hubby made me!) but I just couldn’t do it. He had to finish off the second one for me. They were delish.
Today’s lunch went back to an old staple- the taco salad. Same ol’ salad: spinach, taco meat, shredded cheese, salsa, plain Greek yogurt and some crushed up tortilla chips.
And as the title implies, we had wings tonight. Not your typical deep fried wings though. These were just wings from a bag, placed directly on the charcoal grill after thawing out. To give them the wing flavor, Hubby mixed some butter and Frank’s Buffalo Sauce together and brushed it on the wings after they were fully cooked. He waited a minute and then flipped them over and brushed the other side.
They were perfect, had the charcoal flavor, just a touch of sauce, and had a nice crisp to them. Way healthier (minus the butter) than wings you would get at a restaurant. I added some raw carrots and celery on the side. And of course some Ranch dressing.
And I thought I’d throw in an extra picture, since I always forget to include pictures of myself.
My hand looks ginormous. And don’t worry, I always wear a shirt.
This morning Tyler and I went on a walk and went to one of the parks so he could burn some energy. Then we went to the library, which was awesome! I have never been in the kids area, but it is great. They have tons of books (duh), a puppet area, a couple toys, and not to mention a sweet loft with tons of cushions where kids can go read.
Of course Tyler just liked to go up and down the stairs to the loft, and then play with all the cushions at the top.
He was just a bundle of energy today. Always on the go and eating up a storm. Hubby said he ate 5 cheese sticks this afternoon, just kept demanding more. Guess he’s not sick anymore.
Before I check out, quick book review for you. I just finished Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn the other night.
Holy murder mystery. This book is flying up the charts and I can definitely see why. The book is narrated by a husband and wife, Nick and Amy. It starts off with Amy disappearing on their 5th wedding anniversary. There are signs of a struggle, and all the evidence points to Nick. About halfway through the book a major plot change occurs which totally throws you for a loop.
The writing is very good in this book, she’s very smart and there are plenty of details. It is a little rough and R-rated with some of the language and situations, so if that’s not for you, don’t read it. This is definitely a page-turner and you won’t want to put it down. I love and hate books like that, because they’re so good but they make you stay up too late.
Spoiler alert! Don’t read this if you plan on reading the book. I didn’t like the ending. It left too much up to interpretation. I’m the simple reader who likes her endings tied up in a bow, whether happy or sad. This was too ambiguous. And I hated how they overlooked a detail about the diary- why didn’t they just do ink-dating to see when she wrote it?? Those are my gripes. Overall this book made me feel very good about my marriage and made me appreciate my husband even more, because the people in this book are crazy with a capital C.
Guess that’s enough about that… I’m off to finish charts and head to bed. See you Thursday!
